Adding a Buffalo access point to a Netgear wireless router

I ended up buying a Netgear Nighthawk router. It is powerful enough for wired gigabit speeds and has multiple antennas for wifi coverage. I spent some time looking into "bridge mode" and "routing tables" before figuring out that the way to accomplish this is to configure the second router as an "access point". I have difficulties set up this as an access point. I can use it as an router, once I set it to AP, it do not allow log in. I used to set several Netgear rotuers as AP and have enough experience.
